James Whelan speaks with Jayne Shaw, Non-Executive Chair of BCAL Diagnostics (ASX: BDX), about the company’s transition from research and development to commercialisation.
Shaw discusses BREASTESTplus, a blood test intended for use alongside mammography, and the infrastructure BCAL has built to support referrals through clinicians and pathology networks. The conversation covers practice software, clinician education and the focus on generating test sales. Referral access is an infrastructure measure and does not establish adoption or revenue.
The interview also covers BCAL’s licensed Avantect tests and its commercial priorities under CEO Anne-Louise (Annie) Arnett. Shaw outlines management’s plans for a BREASTESTplus update in November 2026, US validation work with Sonic Healthcare and the process of seeking reimbursement for pancreatic testing. These plans are conditional; an application does not mean reimbursement has been approved.
Shaw closes by reflecting on her experience with Sydney Breast Clinic and the personal motivation behind her work in cancer diagnostics.
