Drilling at Yandal Resources’ (ASX: YRL) Arrakis discovery within the Ironstone Well-Barwidgee (IWB) gold project in Western Australia has demonstrated continuity of high-grade mineralisation at depth.
Results from priority intervals in four diamond holes validated the presence of a steep plunging high-grade zone to the south with an approximate strike length of 150 metres and strong mineralisation below a cross-cutting shear zone first observed earlier this year.
Significant intercepts were 11.5m at 1.6 grams per tonne gold from 347.6m including 5m at 3.1g/t from 348m, and 18m at 1.8g/t gold from 290m including 4.1m at 5.7g/t from 301.7m.
Additional hits of 21.7m at 0.8g/t gold from 366m including 4m at 2.1g/t from 370m, along with 10.2m at 1.3g/t gold from 240.8m including 3.8m at 2.9g/t from 242.3m, were also recorded.
Targeting Greater Depths
Yandal’s wholly owned IWB project covers 370 square kilometres of highly prospective and under-explored tenure located between the Jundee and Bronzewing mines in WA’s northern Yandal Greenstone Belt.
The project has an established gold resource of 268,000 ounces at Flushing Meadows, complemented by the early-stage Arrakis and Siona prospects discovered within the last 12 months where robust gold intercepts in limited historical and recent Yandal drilling indicate the potential for shallow oxide mineralisation.
The new results show that Arrakis remains open at depth, with a clear opportunity to target deeper mineralisation supported by an ongoing infill reverse circulation program to further refine the geometry and extent of higher-grade trends.
Yandal will ise new data from a recent ground gravity survey across the IWB project to refine its stratigraphic and structural interpretations around the Arrakis and Flushing Meadows deposits, as well as generate new early-stage exploration targets within IWB.
High-Grade Mineralisation
Managing director Chris Oorschot was pleased with the success of the Arrakis campaign.
“Our diamond drilling program has very successfully demonstrated that the Arrakis mineralised system remains open at depth, with several intercepts demonstrating a now familiar style of high-grade mineralisation more than 250m from surface,” he said.
“These lab results combined with geological observations will help our team to identify broad geological and structural features that control the geometry of mineralisation.”
“Understanding these controls is critical for building a predictive model that can be used to target higher-grade gold mineralisation across Arrakis discovery and the broader IWB project.”
Yandal anticipates it will prepare and publish an exploration target for Arrakis in late July.
