- 01MoU with Thales Australia on defence training & simulation
- 02Two-way, non-binding; both can lead or supply.
- 03Operator XR platform opens access to defence programs.
xReality Group (ASX: XRG) subsidiary Operator XR has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Thales Australia to pursue defence, security, and law enforcement training and simulation opportunities.
The non-binding agreement establishes a framework for the parties to conduct joint business development, tender responses, customer engagements, and capability demonstrations.
Operator XR will contribute its immersive scenario-based training platform, while Thales Australia brings broader systems capability and access to major defence and security markets.
The arrangement allows either party to lead or support individual opportunities, with no certainty at this stage that the MoU will result in a binding contract or revenue.
Two-Way Collaboration
Thales Australia forms part of the global Thales Group and operates as one of Australia’s largest defence providers, including through its Simulation and Training business.
Under Thales-led opportunities, Operator XR’s in-service technology could be introduced into larger-scale programs beyond its current direct footprint.
In return, Operator XR-led opportunities could allow Thales Australia to participate as a supplier or subcontractor and add capability to offerings pursued by xReality.
The reciprocal structure gives each side flexibility to act as prime contractor or supplier depending on the customer, program and required capability set.
Program Scale Widened
xReality chief commercial officer Ben Smith said the collaboration opened access to larger opportunities and endorsed Operator XR’s technology.
“This is a genuine two-way collaboration with a global defence prime [that] opens a path to programs of a scale that would be difficult to reach on our own, and equally allows us to bring Thales’s capability into opportunities we lead,” he said.
Thales Australia’s general manager of training & simulation / avionics Michael Otero said his company looked forward to collaborating with Operator XR.
“Teaming up with innovative Australian companies like Operator XR is central to how Thales Australia builds sovereign capability and competitive solutions for our customers,” he said.
“Operator XR’s immersive training technology is a strong complement to our Small Arms and Live training and simulation products and services.”
Immersive Training Platform
Operator XR delivers virtual reality and mixed reality training systems designed for mission planning, rehearsal, and operational readiness.
The platform is already in service with more than 100 military and law enforcement agencies internationally.
xReality develops and operates physical, and digital simulation technologies across military, law enforcement, entertainment, training and production markets.
The Thales Australia MoU strengthens xReality’s exposure to institutional defence and security procurement channels while retaining the flexibility of a non-binding collaboration.
Thales Australia’s involvement also positions the partnership to pursue next-generation training and simulation opportunities across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
