Rubicon Water (ASX: RWL) has been included in a bid selected for a major irrigation modernisation project in Morocco’s Tadla region, with its technology solutions representing approximately A$12 million of the bid.
The Office Régional de Mise en Valeur Agricole du Tadla (ORMVAT) selected the bid after separate administrative, technical, and financial assessments conducted through Morocco’s official public procurement process.
Formal contract execution is expected after a statutory 15-day appeal period under Moroccan tender law, with the successful bid submitted by a joint venture between Rubicon’s Spanish and Moroccan partners.
The project will modernise the main canals of the 69,600-hectare Béni Moussa irrigation perimeter and, if contracted and commissioned, is expected to provide Rubicon with an important reference project in Morocco and across North Africa.
Tadla Network Modernisation
The Béni Moussa perimeter covers about 69,600 hectares of irrigated land in the Tadla agricultural region, with around 27,000ha already converted or being converted from traditional gravity irrigation to pressurised drip irrigation.
Rubicon’s technology is intended to improve the stability, accuracy, and responsiveness of water delivery through the main canal network, supporting those irrigation investments and the broader transition to pressurised irrigation.
Its scope will include Total Channel Control technology, automated canal regulation gates, communications infrastructure, and the NeuroFlo software platform, providing real-time monitoring and autonomous control of canal flows and water levels.
The existing regulation infrastructure has operated since the 1950s, with Rubicon to supply the major technology components through a contracting arrangement with its Spanish and Moroccan partners.
Rubicon’s contract will be denominated in euros and include secure payment terms, subject to the joint venture progressing from selected contractor status to formal execution after the appeal period.
Regional Pipeline Focus
On execution, the Tadla contract would become Rubicon’s largest to date in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region, and its second-largest single contract outside Australia.
“We are delighted that the joint venture bid incorporating Rubicon's technology has been selected for this landmark project in Morocco,” chief executive officer Bruce Rodgerson said.
“Like the Canalone contract awarded in late August, Tadla is one of the five major incremental opportunities totalling A$47m categorised as ‘Close’ in our FY26 results presentation.”
Rubicon is already working on further opportunities across the region as it seeks to use a commissioned Tadla project as a reference for applying its technology to the modernisation of large-scale gravity-fed irrigation networks.
