Proteomics International Laboratories (ASX: PIQ) has secured a US patent covering its PromarkerEndo blood test for diagnosing endometriosis and guiding treatment decisions.

The patent protects methods using specific protein biomarkers measured in blood samples and is expected to remain in force until March 2041, subject to maintenance requirements.

PromarkerEndo has demonstrated high diagnostic accuracy in published clinical studies, including for early-stage endometriosis.

The US grant follows patent protection secured in Japan and strengthens Proteomics International’s pathway toward partnerships, licensing, and commercialisation in major healthcare markets.

Proteomics International considers protection in the world’s largest healthcare market an important validation of the novelty and commercial potential of PromarkerEndo.

The company is also pursuing patent protection in Australia, Canada, China, Europe, India, Singapore and South Korea.

Endometriosis Fingerprints

PromarkerEndo uses Proteomics International’s proprietary biomarker discovery platform to identify protein fingerprints associated with endometriosis using a blood sample.

The test could help clinicians determine whether women presenting with symptoms are likely to require invasive surgical investigation.

The diagnostic is designed to address the need for earlier and more accurate detection while improving patient outcomes and potentially reducing healthcare costs.

Its ability to detect early-stage disease could broaden the role of blood-based screening in assessing patients before surgery.

Commercialisation Strategy

Chief executive officer and managing director David Morris described the US patent as an important step in the global commercialisation strategy for PromarkerEndo.

“The grant of this patent by the USPTO is a major achievement and an important validation of the novelty and commercial potential of PromarkerEndo,” Mr Morris said.

“This milestone significantly strengthens our position for future partnerships, licensing discussions, and regulatory reimbursement advancement.”

Endometriosis affects about one in nine women and girls, while diagnosis currently takes an average of seven years and commonly relies on surgical laparoscopy.
