Prominence Energy Kicks Off Field Work in PEL 803 with Geochemical Survey for Natural Hydrogen

Key points

  • First field work for hydrogen/helium begins with geochemical survey.

  • Survey to identify and prioritise targets for seismic and drilling.

  • Project aligns with company's energy transition strategy.

Prominence Energy (ASX: PRM) has initiated its first field exploration for natural hydrogen and helium with a geochemical survey in South Australia's PEL 803, marking a significant step in its energy transition strategy.

The survey is planned to start in April 2026 and run for approximately two weeks.

It will utilise soil gas and water bore sampling methods to detect natural hydrogen and helium.

Results from this initial survey will help prioritise future seismic and drilling activities, which are anticipated to commence in the second half of 2026.

Survey Targets Natural Hydrogen, Helium

The primary objective of the geochemical survey is to screen for natural hydrogen and helium anomalies and identify potential exploration targets.

These methods are described as low-impact and cost-effective for detecting gas migration.

The company is currently undertaking landholder engagement, and regulatory approvals are required before the survey can fully proceed.

**Prominence **has strategically pivoted its focus towards energy transition resources, with natural hydrogen and helium identified as key areas.

The acquisition of a 100% interest in the Gawler Hydrogen Project represented a significant move in diversifying the company's portfolio.

Previous desktop geological and geophysical work within PEL 803 has already identified multiple hydrogen source rocks, including the Hiltaba Granite, and favourable reservoir-seal pairs.

Previous Exploration and Funding

The acquisition of the Gawler Natural Hydrogen Project was completed following final regulatory Change of Control approval for PEL 803 in early 2026.

In FY2025, the company reported a net loss of A$1,164,040.

Prominence Energy secured A$1.75 million in funding through an equity placement to support its exploration and operational activities.

Historically, the company also maintained a portfolio that included conventional oil and gas exploration prospects, such as the Big Apple Gas Prospect in the Gulf of Mexico and an indirect interest in WA-519-P.

Prominence Energy's Exploration Initiative

Prominence Energy's commencement of field work for its natural hydrogen and helium survey in PEL 803 signifies tangible progress in its strategic energy transition pivot.

This low-cost, de-risking exploration phase aims to identify viable targets for future drilling, supported by earlier geological assessments.
