Janison Education (ASX: JAN) has secured its first national government assessment technology contract in the United Kingdom after being appointed principal technology subcontractor to the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) for Scotland’s national standardised assessments.

The subcontract has a total contract value of approximately A$14.2 million over the initial four-year term, with three one-year extension options available at the sole discretion of the Scottish Government.

Janison will deliver the core assessment platform through Janison Insights, with go-live targeted for August 2027 and annual national-scale delivery covering both English and Gaelic assessments.

The contract gives Janison a flagship UK government reference while supporting its strategy to broaden digital assessment activity beyond Australia and New Zealand and pursue further opportunities across the region.

NFER has more than 75 years of experience delivering assessments and educational research and will lead delivery of the national contract.

National Assessment Contract

The Scottish National Standardised Assessments (SNSA) and Measaidhean Coitcheann Nàiseanta na Gàidhlig (MCNG) provide teachers with diagnostic assessment data across four key school stages, delivered annually at national scale.

Janison’s subcontract commences on 21 August 2026 and runs until 21 October 2030, while the available extensions could take the arrangement through to July 2033 but are not guaranteed.

Standard Scottish government contract provisions include termination for convenience with 90 days’ notice and limited compensation on termination.

“Being selected to deliver Scotland’s national assessment programme — our first entry into the UK government assessment market — is a powerful endorsement of our platform, our people, and the strength of our partnership with NFER,” chief executive officer Sujata Stead said.

“Having extended our proven national-scale delivery from Australia to New Zealand for the first time this year, […] we are proud to bring that experience to Scottish learners and educators.”

Platform Experience Key

Janison will draw on experience delivering national-scale assessments in Australia and New Zealand as it configures Janison Insights for the Scottish system, with its existing bilingual delivery capability particularly relevant to the SNSA and MCNG requirements, which cover assessment delivery in English and Gaelic.

The new contract establishes a national government reference that Janison expects will provide a repeatable model for further opportunities in the UK and Europe while reducing revenue concentration across its existing Australia and New Zealand program base.

Initial delivery will require material upfront investment in platform configuration, integration, resource mobilisation, and an in-country operating setup, with the implementation phase expected to affect operating earnings and cash reserves during the 2027 financial year.

As platform utilisation scales, Janison expects stronger margin contribution and operating cash flow, with the contract anticipated to become margin accretive once steady-state delivery is established.
