++Great Southern Mining (ASX: GSN)++ has confirmed shallow gold over 4.5 kilometres of strike at the Amy Clarke prospect within its Duketon gold project in Western Australia.
Results for the first 3,500 metres of a broad-spaced 8,057m aircore drilling campaign included 2m at 23.9 grams per tonne gold from 10m, 2m at 1.5g/t from 30m, and 11m at 1.2g/t gold from 25m including 6m at 1.7g/t.
The company positioned holes every 25m along aircore traverses, and drilling at an average depth of 40m provided good coverage across the target corridor.
Extending Known Mineralisation
The work has extended known mineralisation Great Southern defined in its maiden campaign at Amy Clarke.
That program delivered highlight intercepts of 2m at 23.9g/t gold from 10m, 11m at 1.2g/t gold from 25m including 6m at 1.7g/t, and 2m at 1.5g/t gold from 30m.
Gold mineralisation at Amy Clarke occurs within a structural corridor with multiple modes of quartz-vein–hosted and shear-related mineralisation that reflect a structurally-complex gold system within the Duketon Greenstone Belt.
Assays for the remaining 4,500m are due later this month, while follow-up reverse circulation (RC) drilling in the new year will target zones of higher-grade gold anomalism.
Defining Host Geology
Managing director Matthew Keane said the company had been methodically working up the Amy Clarke prospect over two drilling campaigns since 2021.
“Importantly, the shallow mineralisation we are now seeing is hosted in semi-fresh rock and is a key indicator that we are defining the host geology and primary structures controlling the mineralisation,” he said.
“Given the extensive strike length of the Amy Clarke surface gold anomaly and the prospect’s location on known gold-bearing structures, we believe there is significant gold potential at this prospect.”
The area around Amy Clarke has only seen sparse rotary air blast drilling, conducted by Sons of Gwalia in the 1990s.
Golden Boulder Campaign
Great Southern has also commenced a 7,000m RC campaign at the Golden Boulder discovery, and expects the return of assays before year-end.
Golden Boulder has more than 50 historical workings over a 3.7km strike and past production of 1,915 tonnes grading 28.6g/t gold for 1,761 ounces.
The company aims to define a mineral resource estimate in the north of the prospect where exploration to date has defined semi-contiguous gold mineralisation over a 650m strike.
It will also seek to extend known mineralisation to the south along 1.7km of the prospective structural trend where few historical holes extend beyond a depth of 20m.
