Emyria (ASX: EMD) has expanded its funding agreement with Medibank Private (ASX: MPL) to help eligible customers in Victoria access its Empax programs for treatment-resistant depression (TRD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Under a multi-year funding agreement, patients with complex mental health needs admitted to the Avive Clinic Mornington Peninsula will be able to access the trauma programs with reduced out-of-pocket expenses.
Two Authorised Prescriber applications are in process, with a well-received recruitment campaign completed and team training scheduled to commence in March.
Medibank’s announcement is a significant milestone in Emyria’s national rollout of Empax, which combines psychiatrist-led, psychotherapy-based care with robust longitudinal data collection, delivered within licenced hospital environments.
Each treatment pathway generates real-world clinical evidence which helps the company to continuously optimise care protocols and demonstrate value to insurers and hospital partners.
‘World-Class Mental Health Care’
Emyria executive chair Greg Hutchinson said offering Empax to the Victorian market was an important step forward for patients, clinicians, and the broader health system.
“Our goal has always been to make world-class, evidence-based mental health care accessible to every Australian who needs it and, by integrating insurer funding into high-quality hospital programs, we are removing financial barriers that have historically limited access to comprehensive trauma and mood disorder treatments,” he said.
“This expansion will enable more Australians to access effective treatment for complex mental health conditions while contributing valuable data to help modernise and strengthen the national healthcare system.”
The rollout in Victoria complements two Empax centres in Western Australia and one in Queensland.
Fragmented and Costly Care
Nearly half of all Australians are expected to experience a mental health condition in their lifetime with TRD and PTSD among the most severe.
However, access to specialist, multi-disciplinary care remains fragmented, costly and subject to long wait times.
By integrating hospital-based programs with insurer-backed funding, Emyria and Medibank hope to directly address this need, delivering co-ordinated, evidence-based treatment to patients who need it most.
The company continues to assess opportunities with new hospital partners and insurers across metropolitan and regional Australia.
