Bio-Gene Secures OMRI Approval for Qcide Organic Listing under USDA National Organic Program

Bio-Gene Technology (ASX: BGT) has received approval from the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) in the US to list its Qcide natural insecticide as a Botanical Pesticide under the USDA National Organic Program.

The listing confirms that Qcide — a steam-distilled essential oil derived from Eucalyptus cloeziana — meets OMRI’s standards for use in certified organic production systems with an “Allowed with Restrictions” classification.

Bio-Gene said the approval significantly enhances the commercial positioning of Qcide across organic and sustainable pest-control markets in the US and internationally.

Strengthened Commercial Pathway

OMRI’s decision validates Qcide as a 100% natural, non-synthetic plant extract suitable for use in organic farming operations across the Crop Pest, Weed, and Disease Control category.

By securing a place on the OMRI Products List, Bio-Gene can now use the OMRI Listed seal on marketing and technical materials, offering farmers and manufacturers formal assurance that Qcide is compliant with US organic production standards.

The company noted that OMRI listing is not an organic certification or product endorsement, but it provides a recognised pathway for Qcide’s adoption once relevant regulatory approvals for insecticidal use are completed in each jurisdiction.

The listing broadens the potential customer base for Qcide, allowing it to be incorporated as an active ingredient in approved formulated products across crop protection, consumer pest control and public health markets.

The company expects the listing to support its strategy to deliver environmentally responsible, naturally derived insect control solutions in markets where demand for organic and eco-label inputs continues to grow, and plans to pursue additional listing applications with equivalent certifying bodies in other regions.

‘Natural Insect Control Solution’

“This approval by OMRI and the listing of Qcide as a Botanical Insecticide under the USDA National Organic Program in the OMRI Products List supports Qcide’s status as a truly natural insect control solution,” chief executive officer Tim Grogan said.

“Recognition by OMRI under this USDA organic program validates Bio-Gene’s approach to developing environmentally responsible products that meet the increasing demand for sustainable pest management worldwide, opening up new commercial opportunities for Bio-Gene and our partners to participate in the growing organic agriculture and eco-label markets.”

Bio-Gene said the OMRI listing establishes a clear path for future submissions covering Qcide-based formulations and will support regulatory and commercial engagement in the US organic inputs market.

The company continues to advance its broader pipeline of bio-insecticides targeting resistance management challenges across agriculture, grain storage, public health, and consumer applications.
